Kenley Jansen: A Journey from Curaçao to the Boston Red Sox

From Rookie to Star

Born on September 30, 1987, in Willemstad, Curaçao, Kenley Geronimo Jansen embarked on an extraordinary baseball journey. His rise to prominence took him from his humble beginnings to the hallowed grounds of Major League Baseball and the Boston Red Sox.

A Force on the Mound

Standing at 6'5" and weighing 240 pounds, Jansen is a formidable presence on the pitcher's mound. With his blazing fastball that can reach speeds of over 100 mph and a devastating cutter, he has established himself as one of the most dominant relievers in the league. Jansen has recorded over 400 career saves and has been named an All-Star three times.

Inning-Eating Machine

Beyond his ability to strike out batters, Jansen is known for his unmatched endurance. In 2017, he pitched a remarkable 83.2 innings in relief, setting a new major league record. His ability to eat innings has been crucial to the success of his teams, giving them much-needed rest for their starters and setup men.

From Dodger Blue to Red Sox Scarlet

After spending the first 12 seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Jansen signed a one-year deal with the Boston Red Sox in 2023. The move marked a new chapter in his illustrious career and reunited him with his former teammate, Mookie Betts.
