Carlos Alcaraz, Naomi Osaka Out as U.S. Open Loses a Pair of Stars

Injuries Force Withdrawals

The U.S. Open has suffered a double blow with the withdrawals of Carlos Alcaraz and Naomi Osaka due to injuries.

Alcaraz, the world number one, pulled out with a torn abdominal muscle, while Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, is suffering from a left Achilles injury.

Both players were considered among the favorites for the tournament, which begins on August 29.

Alcaraz's Absence

Alcaraz's withdrawal is a major disappointment for the tournament.

The 19-year-old Spaniard has been in sensational form this year, winning five titles, including the Madrid and Barcelona Opens.

His absence will give Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic a clear path to the title.

Osaka's Struggles

Osaka's withdrawal is also a blow to the tournament.

The 24-year-old Japanese star has been struggling with her form and fitness this year.

She has not won a title since the Australian Open in 2021.

Open Field

With Alcaraz and Osaka out of the tournament, the field is now wide open.

Nadal, Djokovic, and Daniil Medvedev are the favorites, but there are a number of other players who could make a run at the title.

The U.S. Open will be played from August 29 to September 11.
