Conservative Party Chairman: Greg Hands Appointed

Greg Hands Appointed as Conservative Party Chairman

In a recent Cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Member of Parliament (MP) Greg Hands has been appointed the new Conservative Party Chairman. Hands succeeds Nadhim Zahawi, who held the position before his recent dismissal over an ethics inquiry.

Nadhim Zahawi's Dismissal as Party Chairman

Nadhim Zahawi's dismissal as Conservative Party Chairman stems from an ethics inquiry into his handling of tax affairs, which found a "serious breach" of the ministerial code. Zahawi was found to have paid a penalty to settle a tax dispute, a revelation that led to his departure from the position.

The Independent Adviser on Ministers' Interests, an independent ethics adviser to the Prime Minister, conducted the inquiry and concluded that Zahawi had failed to disclose the tax penalty and had shown a lack of "candor in his dealings with Downing Street." As a result, Sunak decided to dismiss Zahawi from his role.

Greg Hands, the newly appointed Conservative Party Chairman, brings a wealth of experience in government and finance to the role. He has served as Minister of State for Trade Policy and Chief Secretary to the Treasury. His appointment is expected to bring stability and leadership to the Conservative Party during a challenging political environment.
