The competition was discontinued in 1999, with the winners of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup being merged into the UEFA Cup, which was later renamed the UEFA Europa League. The UEFA Cup Winners' Cup is fondly remembered by fans of European football, and it remains one of the most prestigious club competitions in the world.
