District Court Delivers Devastating Blow To Tech Giant

Google Found Guilty of Monopoly Abuse in Landmark Ruling

District Court Delivers Devastating Blow to Tech Giant

"Google is a monopolist...and has acted as one to maintain its monopoly."

In a groundbreaking decision, the District Court for the District of Columbia has ruled that Google has illegally abused its monopoly over the search engine market. The court's 277-page ruling excoriates Google for its anti-competitive practices, which it says have harmed consumers and stifled innovation.

The ruling is a major victory for the Justice Department, which has been investigating Google for antitrust violations for years. The lawsuit, filed in 2020, alleged that Google had illegally maintained its monopoly through a series of anti-competitive practices, including:

  • Preventing rivals from accessing its search engine data
  • Forcing websites to use its search engine and advertising services
  • Acquiring potential rivals and suppressing competition

The court found that Google's actions had "harmed consumers by limiting their choice of search engines and reducing competition in the search advertising market." It also found that Google's conduct had "substantially lessened competition and created barriers to entry for new entrants."
