The Monetary Rewards for Olympic Success

Winning an Olympic medal is the pinnacle of athletic achievement, and it comes with a substantial financial reward. The largest prize money under the Medalist Appreciation Program (MAP) is reserved for athletes who clinch an Olympic gold medal, who are entitled to a bonus of S$1 million.

Rewards for Multiple Gold Medals

Athletes who manage to win multiple Olympic gold medals are entitled to an even larger bonus. For each additional gold medal won, they receive an additional S$1 million.

Rewards for Silver and Bronze Medals

While the bonus for a gold medal is the most coveted, athletes who win silver and bronze medals are also rewarded handsomely. Silver medalists receive S$500,000, while bronze medalists receive S$250,000.

Operation Gold Program

The Operation Gold program is a joint initiative between the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and the United States Olympic Endowment Fund (USOEF) that provides financial support to American athletes. Through this program, Olympic gold medalists receive $37,500, while silver and bronze medalists receive $22,500 and $15,000, respectively.

Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games

At the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, US athletes received a total of $56 million in payments for medal performances through Operation Gold. This included $22.5 million for 15 gold medals, $11.25 million for 10 silver medals, and $7.5 million for 5 bronze medals.

Team USA Bonuses

The US Olympic and Paralympic Committee pays members of Team USA a bonus of $37,500 for each gold medal they win, $22,500 for every silver, and $15,000 for a bronze. These bonuses are in addition to the MAP and Operation Gold rewards.
